Aalap Mehta Makes State
Level! Congratulations!
Aalap Mehta is a currently an 8th grader at Quest
Academy in Palatine. Aalap first contacted our group
last year after reading about Dr. George Godfrey’s
presentation on the Potawatomi held in June of 2008.
Aalap wanted to learn about American Indians and
about Israel and Avis Blodgett for an in-depth history
project, so I met with him and his mother to discuss
research options for his competition in a history fair. I
shared ideas and resources and invited him to
attend several of our programs in 2008, which they
did. In September of 2008 Aalap heard Susan
Campbell speak about the Potawatomi history and
culture in and he heard Glennette Tilley Turner share
about the Underground Railroad in October, 2008.

Many months later Aalap completed a good
deal of research and he presented his history
project about the Blodgett family, the Potawatomi
and the Underground Railroad at his Quest
Academy School History Fair on February 26,
2009. We all hoped he would make into the
Regional History Fair, which he did!

More good news followed! He made it to STATE
with his well done paper. Congratulations! We are
so proud of this inspiring student, Aalap Mehta!
We wish him the best with his chance to reach a
national level, which was his goal from the start.

We will post on our site the research he wishes to
share after he has completed his competition. It’s
been such a pleasure working with him and meeting
his family.  We know he has a promising future and
we are grateful for his contribution to understanding
history.

Tom Sisul Helps Us Attain
Non-Profit Status 501(c)3
In 2008 our group became an official 501(c)3 non
profit, which means any donations given to us are
tax deductable. It was a good deal of work to
accomplish this step, but well worth it and
empowering. We thank our lawyer, Tom Sisul,
who has most helpful and supportive, as was his
secretary, Sue Fors. Both have been a pleasure
to work with in helping us receive our 501(c)3.

Tom Sisul has been supportive of our new
project which we will announce in the near future.
Thank you, to Tom Sisul for his steady guidance
this past year and a half, and his insight into
history. He has made this process all the more
enjoyable.

Thank You McDonald's
We again thank the McDonald’s Corporation
Charitable Foundation for their support for
education on these worthy historical projects and
presentations. We wish to give a sincere thank
you to M. Richards for his help and support. It is
because of his assistance and the foundation’s
that our board has been able to move forward
and make our contributions.

Creative Projects for 2009
We have our first exciting project for 2009 which
will be announced this spring. Our five board
members are enthused about this endeavor,
which is a big undertaking, but rewarding. We will
soon share it publicly, so please watch for
updates!
